Energizing Progress for a Sustainable Future

About Sabah Energy Corporation

Sabah Energy Corporation (SEC) is a government-linked company wholly owned by the State Government of Sabah, Malaysia, and operates under the purview of the Chief Minister’s Office. Established in 1981, SEC was formed to lead the development of the state’s energy resources and to support the implementation and operation of the Sabah Gas Utilisation Project (SGUP), which commenced in 1980 in Labuan.

Today, SEC is the largest supplier and carrier of natural gas in Sabah, and one of the key players in Malaysia’s energy sector.

Looking ahead, in alignment with Malaysia’s 2040 low-carbon state goal and 2050 carbon neutrality goal, SEC is committed to enhancing Sabah’s energy security and sustainability. Our current focus is to deliver natural gas efficiently as a transitional fuel while harnessing the state’s renewable energy potential to drive this transition.

What We Do

The SEC Group is at the forefront of advancing energy resources in Sabah, encompassing natural gas, renewable energy, and diverse economic activities. Our portfolio extends across the downstream gas activities, power generation, property development, centralized logistics, and marine/offshore facilities, all dedicated to fostering Sabah’s progress. We are dedicated to pursuing harmonious and progressive opportunities that align with our core pursuits and the aspirations of the Sabah State Government.

Sustainability

While gas remains our core business, we recognize that its role in the future is finite. As such, we are committed to embracing sustainable energy resources such as renewable energy from solar, hydro, wind, and biomethane to foster a more resilient future.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives are carefully aligned with the Environment Social Governance (ESG) frameworks and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with a strong focus on enhancing the well-being of local communities and populations.
