SEC and PETRONAS have secured a new agreement under which PETRONAS would supply an additional 104 MMscfd of natural gas to SEC to support Sabah’s industrial and energy needs. With the latest additional natural gas supply, PETRONAS is now supplying a total of 370 MMscfd to SEC. This agreement was formalized in a Document Exchange Ceremony witnessed by the Chief Minister of Sabah, YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Bin Haji Noor at Menara Kinabalu.
As a wholly owned Government-Linked Company (GLC) of the State Government, SEC continues its strategic approach by securing more gas for industrial and energy development of Sabah. This strategic approach has bolstered SEC’s capabilities, making it one of the region’s largest suppliers and transporters of natural gas.
The ceremony also witnessed another document exchange for a gas sales agreement between SEC and its newest partner, ESTEEL Sabah, under which SEC will deliver 100 MMscfd of natural gas for manufacturing requirements and 50 MMscfd for power generation. The supply of a total of 150 MMscfd is valued at approximately RM1 billion annually. Natural gas, recognized as the cleanest fossil fuel, will be the preferred energy source for ESTEEL’s manufacturing and power generation.
At the ceremony, SEC was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Adzmir Abd Rahman, while PETRONAS was represented by Anuar Ismail, Senior General Manager of Integrated Hydrocarbon, Malaysia Petroleum Management (PETRONAS). ESTEEL Sabah was represented by its Managing Director, Xi Yuhang.
SEC Chairman, YB Datuk Annuar Ayub, was also present alongside the Chief Minister, YB Phoong Jin Zhe, the Minister of Industrial Development & Entrepreneurship, and Datuk Bacho Pilong from PETRONAS to witness the exchanges.
SEC acknowledges the firm support and commitment of the State and Federal Governments, the Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship and its agencies, as well as various other government agencies, PETRONAS, and ESTEEL Sabah in making these agreements a reality.
