SEC Launches Second Solar Project

16 Mar 2026 | News & Event

TUARAN – Sabah Energy Corporation (SEC) has officially launched its second solar project, a 15MW Large Scale Solar farm in Tuaran, marking another significant step in the state’s ongoing effort to reduce its dependence on conventional energy sources and build a more sustainable power system for Sabah.

The launch was officiated by the Chief Minister of Sabah, YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji bin Haji Noor, and was attended by SEC Chairman Datuk Annuar Ayub, SEC Deputy Chairman Datuk Pg Hassan A Pg Amir, Labuan Member of Parliament YB Datuk Indera Dr. Haji Suhaili bin Abdul Rahman, members of the SEC Board of Directors, and SEC Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ir. Ts. Adzmir Abd Rahman. The ceremony was held in the presence of approximately 450 guests.

The 15MW solar facility is aligned with both the SE-RAMP 2040 roadmap and the Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 vision, two frameworks that chart the state’s broader ambitions for economic growth and energy transformation. Through projects like this, SEC continues to push forward Sabah’s transition toward renewable energy sources, including solar, hydro, and wind, while at the same time creating employment opportunities and contributing to the economic development of local communities.

The evening did not end with the launch ceremony. Guests joined in a Ramadan iftar, and the occasion was used to extend contributions to several community organisations in the area, among them HOME Tuaran, Rumah Anak Yatim and Maahad Tahfiz At-Taqwa in Kampung Laya-Laya, Masjid At-Taubah in Kampung Lok Batik, Masjid At-Taqwa and Masjid Nur Sa’adah in Kampung Laya-Laya, and Masjid Assajidin in Kampung Tambalang.

The spirit of the day had in fact begun long before the official proceedings. Since early morning, members of the Kelab Sukan dan Rekreasi SEC, working together with ADABI, had been preparing bubur lambuk to be distributed to local government bodies, schools, and nearby mosques as a gesture of goodwill during the holy month of Ramadan.

It was, all in all, a day that reflected what SEC hopes to stand for, a State GLC that looks after not just the economy, but also the communities it serves.
