SEC Hosts Inaugural Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House at SICC

On May 6, 2024, Sabah Energy Corporation Sdn Bhd (SEC) held its inaugural Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC). The event was attended by approximately 500 guests, including prominent government officials, valued customers, private sector representatives, SEC employees, and their families. The event was graced by the presence of Sabah’s Chief Minister, YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji bin Haji Noor, who participated in several key ceremonies.

Datuk Adzmir Abd Rahman, CEO of SEC, delivered welcoming remarks emphasizing the corporation’s pivotal role in aiding the state government’s development initiatives. He highlighted SEC’s alignment with the Sabah Maju Jaya development plan, which focuses on driving growth and progress across the state.

One of SEC’s critical initiatives includes recruiting academically talented graduates from underprivileged backgrounds. This approach not only reduces unemployment but also empowers families by providing them with a sustainable source of income. Recruits receive specialized training in Kuala Lumpur and other locations, particularly in the energy sector, fostering local expertise and reducing dependence on external talent. This strategy is vital in creating high-quality jobs in Sabah and addressing the skills gap.

SEC’s employment policies also support the state’s poverty eradication goals by targeting employees from the hardcore poor segment of the population. Additionally, SEC is also advocating for more women’s participation in STEM fields. The company not only hires women for operational roles but also promotes them to leadership positions such as supervisors, operation and project leaders. This commitment has yielded impressive results, demonstrating the equal capabilities of women when provided with opportunities.

During the event, SEC demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by donating RM200,000 to Yayasan Kebajikan Sabah. This donation aims to support the foundation’s efforts in alleviating poverty within the state. The Chief Minister witnessed the donation ceremony, underscoring the significant role SEC plays in supporting local communities.

The event’s highlight was the launch of the SEC Anti-Corruption Plan by the Chief Minister himself. This initiative reflects SEC’s dedication to enhancing governance and maintaining integrity within its operations.

The Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house was a gesture of gratitude from SEC to its stakeholders for their continuous support. The successful event underscored the corporation’s dedication to community engagement and its role in Sabah’s socio-economic development.
